A Greener Mauritius – Together (?)

On Monday I received a letter from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) asking me if I would like to unsubscribe from the service that sends you those pile of papers containing my every six months transactions (bank statements). This has for goal to lessen the use of paper and hence contributing to less trees being cut down. And this in turn has for goal to help save the environment.

Also, there is a Zip-Fairy-Crest (detergents and washing powders) advert on the radio promoting the products as these now contain less phosphate. A doser comes with them so as to help you use the correct amount (no wastage). This too has for goal to help protect the environment.

Personally I believe that these initiatives have been late in coming but better late than never, right? If small stuffs like that can help, even if a little, to protect this world we have taken for granted for far too long, then we have to contribute to the efforts being made. All those small steps can transform into one huge step. 🙂

Mauritius is already green (Heaven on Earth). Let’s keep it that way. Together (!) 😉

  1. Hehe, Another initiative of the MCB after that of charging Rs1 for each MCB ATM transaction and Rs10 for some ATM Transaction with another bank from its ATM.

But you did not reveal your decision…
    Do you agree to subscribe?

I would also like to know how were you asked to respond back?
    (By post or mail?)
If by post, I would again say “Bad Marketing Strategy from MCB” since they could have provided some other means like email or just a phone call or SMS…

As you said : “these initiatives have been late in coming but better late than never, right?”

I would add to your quote : “Do it the right way, at the first time!”

  2. IMO all these stuffs are just commercial stunts – esp. the detergent one (which could have been implemented much much earlier).

Companies would have to do much more than cost-cutting to protect our environment – stuff like solar panels, air conditioning.

  3. @ yashvin: yeps, I am unsubscribing from that service. and I was asked to repond back by signing the letter and post it by mail. Actually, I believe it is done by post mail because they need your signature before removing you from the service. A phone call or sms then ain’t suitable.

    @ Carrotmadman6

Yeah like i said better late than never. And I would like to believe they are actually making an effort. During the past years, many countries have been putting much emphasis on stuffs that one way or the other have contributed to protecting the environment. The consequences of not caring for the environment are being felt worldwide. Hence I maintain my belief that a honest effort is being made.

I do agree that much more than cost cutting is needed but let’s think of this as the first positive steps being undertaken. 🙂
